Lazy Obama Never Goes To Work

Obama was famous in the Illinois Senate for avoiding tough votes by voting "present." This tactic, of course, is the last refuge of linguini-spined, unprincipled politicians. Even John Edwards took him to the wood shed on it during the debates.
At least it can be said of Obama that he was there and chose to vote "present." But he voted. Now, it turns out that the Messiah can't seem to get out of bed in the morning to go to the United States Senate and vote at all.
His voting record is at Project Vote Smart, and you can search the database by issue to check particular votes. Check out how many "NV" (No Vote) entries there are, compared to the "Y" or "N" votes.
Here is a small sample.
Lest you think I am cherry-picking it. Here's another.
If this guy worked for a private company he would have been fired long ago for not getting his lazy ass into work to do his job.
Could it be that he was too busy running for president to bother testing out his Senate job first? He isn't even trying to get experience in anything, and yet he wants to be the President of the United States.
Talk about hubris.

Let's keep Obama in Congress. If we get enough Democrats doing nothing, maybe we can survive the next 4 to 8 years.

If I did this right:
NV - 199, 37.3%
Y - 248, 46.4%
N - 87, 16.3%
Sure wish I could get away with doing less than 2/3 of my job.
He and McCain look about the same on NVs.
Yeah, but McCain has been there for 25 years, doesn’t need the practice, and has plenty of qualifications to be president.
Obama, from what I can tell, never had a real job other than the 2 Senate slots and didn’t do anything in either one; no legislation, no votes on legislation.
Zip. Zero. Nada.
Gotta actually do your job to get any experience. McCain doesn’t need it. Obama needs it badly.
I'm always seeing him one of the Cspan channels while the other one is covering the Senate.
Perhaps the question should be what were they doing when they missed the votes, and what votes did they miss?
A lot of legislation deals with fluff like naming post offices, heh.
And if they're going to vote No, then it's not like they really need to be there anyway. I just saw Daily Kos complaining about McCain missing voted the other day and the whole thing perturbs me.
Senator to not vote on the Medicare bill, which would have failed to pass by one (against the filibuster, at 59 votes) if Kennedy hadn't shown up while recovering from brain surgery (how many jokes could you make about that?).
A lot of doctors got really peeved that Republican Senators were filibustering this, namely Cornyn and Sununu, and it doesn't help McCain that he was the only Senator not present to vote on it. At the very least, this insulates Obama against any critique from McCain about not always voting as he could retort "everyone voted on the Medicare bill but you, and it was within one vote of failing."
I sure hope McCain raised a lot of money at fundraisers missing that vote, as it might be a costly one because the AMA (American Medical Association) is a very wealthy constituency that he doesn't want to alienate.
Clinton has a bunch of NVs as well.
Ron Paul even has a lot of NVs.
John Cornyn, Mel Martinez and Nancy Pelosi have very few.
I'd chalk it up to campaigning = NVs.
I read somewhere that, over the years, the congressional staffers have established an informal arrangement whereby a congresscritter who expects to absent for an important vote will pair up with another one on the other side of the issue who's also expecting to be absent, so that thier missed votes would. If this is true, then the NV record isn't quite as good an indicator of work ethic as it would first appear.
Of course, this approach is effective only if you assume that the floor debates are more Kibuki theater than actual, mind-changing debates. And if THAT's true, I have to give a lot of credit to the ones who actually do show up; it's like attending a college class where the instructor's only good for reading from the study guide (had several of those, back in the day).

During the OH debate, Hillary pointed out that Obama had never held one hearing of the Senate subcommittee on NATO that he chairs. Obama's response to her--and I swear that I'm not making this up--was "I was too busy campaigning".
